Le jardin

The garden is looking bloomin’ lovely at the moment. On the edible side, we have herbs, raspberries, lettuce, courgettes, figs and vines. The sweet peas are just staring to flower and are picked daily and the geraniums and honeywort look fantastic too. Hoping last year’s Christmas tree will look as good come December.

Day trippers

We had a lovely time looking after the nephew in London Town.

Climbed the lions at Trafalgar Square, saw a pink stretch limo, took in the sights of Chinatown and Soho, had lunch by Buck House and topped the day off with cake.

Boot fair loot

Today’s boot fair loot is a Kearley & Tonge Ltd. of Mitre Square E.C.3. peacock biscuit tin. (Mitre Square being the site of the fourth in Jack the Ripper‘s five murders!)

Gray’s Inn Road

Well, it’s been a while!

I had my annual check up at the Royal National Throat, Nose & Ear Hospital today and as it was such a lovely day, I decided to walk there from Charing Cross. It turned in to a bit of a trip down memory lane passing through the Inns of Court where I frequently used to  eat lunch, past the Holborn School of Driving where I learnt to drive (my third lesson found me navigating a rush-hour Russell Square), and along by the ITN building on Gray’s Inn Road where I had my first proper job after leaving university.

With time to spare, I had a wander round Saint Andrew’s Gardens which was originally the burial ground for the church of St. Andrew’s in Holborn. I’ve always loved the art deco Trinity Court at the front of the square the former burial ground is situated in.

A few hundred metres down the road, I discovered the wonderful Calthrope Project, an inner city community garden and centre which is truly a little oasis amongst the bustle and traffic of King’s Cross.

Camping

Hi-de-hi campers. Rise and shine! To celebrate out little man turning 5, we ventured all of ten minutes down the road to spend the weekend camping at the amazing Forgewood Campsite. The dude spent his days and nights playing in the woods with his newly made friends and never washed for three days as he was too busy. Good times.
