Half term at the London Transport Museum is not for the faint hearted, but it’s fab and we love the images projected on the wall and floor.

Singleton’s Golden Eye Ointment

We spent a good two hours this week walking the lovely circular route through Shadwell and Hurst Woods, enjoying the sunshine, admiring wonderful wheelbarrow displays and looking out for trolls.

Being a bit of a magpie when it comes to looking for odd pieces of ceramic in the ground, I was amazed to discover a 120 year old pot of Singleton’s Golden Eye Ointment peeping out of some mud. It looks like a stopper but in actual fact the cream sat in the hollow on top of the pedestal and was covered with waxed paper.

Bodiam Castle

A gorgeous late afternoon was recently spent at the ever so lovely Bodiam Castle. The ducks were fed then chased, the castle was climbed and I never came up with a satisfactory answer to George’s question of where the missing bits were. As we left a mist was forming over the moat and the ducks were getting ready for bed.

Rusthall bonfire

The annual village bonfire and firework display took place at the weekend. And what a scorcher it was! It gets bigger and better each year and we can watch it all from the comfort of our front garden. Our donation to the pyre was an old Lightning McQueen pinata I have been trying to dispose of for some time. Instead, it got this extra special send off and we know it made the fire sparkle just that little bit extra. Ka-chow!

Peppa Pig World

We went, we saw, we queued, we rode the helicopter, we queued, we refused to shake hands with George, we went back the next day for more, we queued, we absolutely loved it. Oink oink.

The Autumn Appreciation Society

We had a lovely literary walk around Bedgebury Pinetum last week. Leaves fell from the trees like confetti whilst we hunted bears, spotted a Gruffalo or two and saw Stick Man hanging out in the woods.

A Wadhurst waddle

Three Gallivanting Goddesses managed to get together this past weekend for a stroll in the East Sussex countryside. A stroll that turned into a rather hilly twelve-mile hike. It was also our tenth anniversary walk, and boy, haven’t we come a long way since then? (That’s a rhetorical question, no need to write in). A frantic last-minute exchange of who’s got the walk instructions and the OS map emails was swiftly dealt with by a late night trip to Waterstones (thank you Katherine!). Canadian Terry thankfully managed to get on the right train despite asking for a ticket to WADhurst when it’s pronounced as a very plummy WODhurst. All part of the adventure. It was nice discovering a Clootie Well but we had no ribbon or cloth to tie to the tree, enjoying the gorgeous countryside and sunshine, and just having a natter as getting together these days involves planning six months in advance on days when there is a full moon. Looking forward to our next wander and celebrating our twentieth anniversary walk.
